ZTE delays Q1 report, still assessing impact of US ban

ZTE has delayed the publication of its first-quarter results from a scheduled date of 19 April. The company said it is still assessing the impact of the US government's ban on exports to ZTE and will need more time before it can release the results.

ZTE's shares also remain suspended in Shenzhen. The trading was halted on 17 April when the US ban was announced.

ZTE revises Q1 net loss to CNY 5.4 bln after US ban

ZTE has updated its results for the first quarter, saying it is now reporting a net loss of CNY 5.4 billion, against a profit the year before of 1.2 billion. The revised results take into account the impact of the US supplier ban, which was lifted after the company paid USD 1.4 billion in penalties. The company had earlier said it expected a net loss of CNY 7-9 billion for the first half, from a profit of 2.29 billion, a decline of 405-492 percent.

However, it has a restart plan in place to pick up operations again quickly if the US government softens its stance.

US President Donald Trump said he is working with China to limit job losses at ZTE and help the Chinese company "get back in business, fast". His tweet follows a statement from ZTE that it has ceased all major operations due to the export ban on supplies from the US to the company.

ZTE suspends operations in face of US ban

ZTE announced that its has ceased its major operating activities due to the export ban imposed by the US government on the Chinese company. Just over three weeks after the ban was announced, the company said in a statement to investors that "as a result of the denial order, the major operating activities of the company have ceased".

ZTE delays AGM due to US uncertainty

ZTE has delayed its annual general meeting of shareholders, due to the ongoing uncertainty about the impact of the US export ban on the Chinese company. The meeting was scheduled to take place 11 May, and a new date will be called before 30 June, the board announced. This will also mean a delay in the closing record date for receiving its annual dividend.

ZTE announced that it's filed a formal request for a stay of the export ban imposed by the US government against the company. The application was made to the Commerce Department's Bureau of Industry and Security. ZTE said it also submitted additional information to the BIS as requested under its order.

ZTE extends suspension of share trading

ZTE announced that its shares will remain suspended from trading while it decides how to address the US government's ban on exports to the Chinese company. In a statement to investors, ZTE said it has decided "to take certain actions available to it under applicable US laws in relation to the [US government's] order", and until these are made public, the shares will remain suspended. ZTE announced that it "is making active communications with relevant parties and seeking a solution" to the US government's ban on exports to the Chinese company. The announcement follows reports that the US Department of Commerce will hear additional evidence from the company over the case.

ZTE to seek talks, legal action against 'unfair' US export ban

ZTE said it will seek talks with US officials and take legal action if necessary, after the US government "unfairly" imposed a ban on components from the US to the Chinese company. In its first official statement since the ban was announced, ZTE said the seven-year order will "not only severely impact the survival and development of ZTE, but will also cause damages to all partners of ZTE including a large number of US companies".

ZTE banned from buying US components for 7 years

ZTE has been banned from buying components or parts from the US for seven years, after the US Commerce Department said the company violated the terms of a settlement reached last year. ZTE was fined for shipping equipment to Iran and North Korea in times of sanction. It then paid a bonus to the employees that engaged in these practices and gave false information over the disciplinary action taken, the Commerce Department found, violating the terms of the settlement.

ZTE confirms improvement in FY results, increase in R&D spend

ZTE confirmed a strong improvement in results for 2017 in its annual report. Revenue growth accelerated to 7.5 percent to CNY 108.8 billion, the gross margin improved slightly to just over 31 percent, and the net result returned to a profit of CNY 4.6 billion after the loss of CNY 2.4 billion in 2016.
