ZTE Firefox-powered Open C smartphone launches on eBay

ZTE announced that its Firefox OS-powered Open C smartphone is now on sale on eBay in the US, Russia and Europe. The ZTE Open C features a 4-in screen, 3 megapixel camera and a 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm processor based on A7 architecture. It is the first smartphone to ship with the latest version of Firefox OS, bringing performance improvements, enhanced messaging and multimedia capabilities to first time smartphone users at an affordable price. The ZTE Open C, priced at USD 99.99. When ZTE and eBay collaborated to launch the ZTE open in August last year, it sold out in only three days.

ZTE writes that the latest version of Firefox OS offers many new features including: better e-mail functionality with POP3 support, enhanced MMS capabilities, direct music player access from the lock screen or notifications bar, improved sorting of Gallery media to make it easier to find photos and advanced Bluetooth sharing to allow multiple files to be transferred simultaneously. Users can also now get to where they want to go faster with enhanced scrolling performance and system app startup times.

ZTE brings Firefox phone to France with Leclerc

ZTE will launch the first smartphone running the Mozilla Foundation's Firefox OS in France, the Open C. It will sell for less than EUR 100 at E. Leclerc supermarkets. ZTE Firefox-powered Open C smartphone available for apps

Several US states, including Connecticut, Florida and Illinois, are jointly spearheading an investigation into eBay's security practices, following eBay's recent disclosure of a massive cyberattack which the company says compromised a large number of users' personal information, reported TechCrunch. ZTE has teamed up with online marketplace eBay to introduce the ZTE Open smartphone, based on Mozilla's Firefox mobile operating system, in India, reports The Hindu. eBay India is currently offering the phone under 'limited availability' at a price of INR 6,990.
