Dream Small to Dream Big: The Art of Precision

In the world of semiconductors, small is powerful. Every breakthrough begins with a dream measured by nanometres, and in the race to the future, it is the mastery of the smallest things that leads to the biggest leaps. The foundation of life, is barely visible to the human eye. Most of today’s communication technologies, smartphones, by that measure, are powered by micron components and precision engineering. As the demand for smaller and more powerful chips surges, the world needs it all and fast.

Cutting Through Limits

Laservall, with the name speaks for itself, is a global leader when it comes to laser technology, literally shaping modern innovation with accuracy and complexity.

"If you had to visualize Laservall’s role, think of Ant-Man," said Jeffrey Chan, CFO of Laservall. "We’re the superhero honing the power of precision, working at an invisible realm, and delivering massive impact. This is something we are incredibly proud of as a team."

Back when Laservall first landed in Hong Kong, the technology landscape looked very different. Devices were bulkier, components were much larger, and traditional machining was somewhat sufficient at the time. But as the world began shrinking its gadgets, from brick- to pocket-sized everything, as well as wafer-thin sensors, the demands on precision manufacturing skyrocketed.

"As devices evolve, so too must the tools that create them." Chan noted. Traditional machining poses risks of friction and physical damage when handling delicate components. Laser technology, by contrast, is clean, fast, and contactless, offering micron-level accuracy ideal for today’s high-performance devices. Advanced laser soldering, cutting, and marking systems, is what enables the seamless integration of camera modules and microchips that power today’s most powerful electronics.

Laservall’s petite yet powerful components that makes seamless integration of modules and microchips possible and powers today’s most powerful electronics.

Not Just Smaller, But Smarter

Today, with operations spanning South Korea, China, India, and Singapore, Laservall drives some of the world’s most advanced sectors with industrial-grade laser solutions, plays a major role in the global supply chain and pushes the boundaries of "small" with leading smartphone manufacturers like Apple and Samsung. Other notable clients include LG, Tesla and BYD, alongside major suppliers like Foxconn, Sunny Optical, Luxshare Precision, and O-Film.

"We’ve got sizes further reduced and automation equipped with AI, that way productivity per second is upped 3 times," said Chan. "and we’re moving forward investing in the next frontier: AI-driven manufacturing."

By embedding machine learning into its systems, the company is transforming how precision work is done, from optimising soldering parameters to predicting maintenance needs, reducing downtime. and accelerating testing cycles. These intelligent systems not only make production faster and more accurate, but they also make it smarter. And in an industry where time, yield, and precision are everything, that makes all the difference.

Laservall’s Micro Laser Jet Soldering System is embedded with machine learning capabilities, powering AI-based process design simulation for faster and smarter production with accuracies.

Laservall’s impact extends far beyond performance and efficiency, it is among the first in the industry to offer cleaner, greener technologies for semiconductor manufacturing. In South Korea, the company developed a patented vapor laser cleaning technology that is changing how semiconductors are made. Traditionally, wafer cleaning relied on harsh chemicals and abrasive processes that generated significant waste. Laservall’s method, however, is contactless and eco-friendly, using precision laser pulses to clean wafers without causing damage. Now, the manufacturers can reuse the wafers, which significantly reduces environmental impact.

Looking ahead, Laservall is charting its next phase of growth through Vision 2030+, a strategic blueprint centered around three core pillars: Micro Laser Solutions (MLS) for ultra-precise components, Micro Assembly Systems (MAS) for modular, automated production, and Laser Eco Solutions (LECO), further focusing on sustainable technologies like vapor laser cleaning and energy-efficient processing.

From City to Continents

"At Laservall, we dream small so the world can dream big," said Chan. In a world racing toward smarter, faster, and greener innovation, Laservall is pursuing perfection in precision manufacturing, and this bold aspiration is not coming from Silicon Valley, but from Hong Kong.

While Laservall operates across Asia, its heartbeat remains in Hong Kong, a city uniquely positioned at the intersection of global markets and China’s manufacturing strength. "Hong Kong gives us everything a technology company needs," said Chan. "Access to capital, low taxes, a rich talent pool from eight globally ranked universities, strong government support, and a vibrant innovation community. It’s the kind of environment where dreams don’t just stay ideas, they become products."

At the core of Laservall’s rise is the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) — a global I&T ecosystem that empowers innovators to transform bold concepts into real-world impact. With HKSTP’s strong support and government-backed incentives, Laservall has been accelerating breakthroughs in semiconductor technology that are foundational to next-gen communication technologies.

"Laservall is a shining example of how global tech companies could thrive in Hong Kong’s innovation ecosystem," said Albert Wong, CEO of HKSTP. "We’re not just nurturing semiconductor innovation, or any industry in particular, we’re looking at a broader picture, having a global conversation to bring in talent, capital, and infrastructure to help maximizing Hong Kong’s power in a future."

The Art of Crafting the Future

In April this year, Laservall has decided to further invest in Hong Kong with a landmark USD 300 million planned over the next five years. One-third will be dedicated to developing talent in AI, optics, and mechanical engineering; one-third to upgrading facilities and integrating automation; and one-third to expanding operations and backend capabilities. The company is also set to double its R&D team by 2026 and grow it sixfold by 2028 in the heart of Asia’s innovation engine, sculpting the future with mastery in the smallest details.
