To address the challenges of aging network infrastructure, Thyssenkrupp Materials Services GmbH implemented HFCL's innovative Open Networking solution with Wi-Fi 6 Access Points, creating a robust, flexible network to support digital transformation initiatives in harsh industrial environments.
Thyssenkrupp Materials Services GmbH, a global materials distributor operating across 40 countries with over 150 warehouses and 30 processing centers, faced significant networking challenges due to aging infrastructure nearing end-of-life. Additionally, Thyssenkrupp needed a robust networking solution capable of withstanding harsh industrial environments characterized by dust, humidity, and electromagnetic interference. The company also sought a flexible, scalable architecture that could adapt to emerging technologies and evolving business requirements.
Wi-Fi 6 Technology Powers Industrial Connectivity
HFCL delivered a comprehensive Open Networking solution in partnership with EPS Global and BE Networks, featuring Wi-Fi 6 Access Points that has fundamentally reshaped Thyssenkrupp's connectivity landscape. By leveraging open standards and vendor-neutral approaches, the solution provides Thyssenkrupp with greater flexibility, easier integration of new technologies, and protection from vendor lock-in. These Access Points were engineered specifically for harsh industrial environments, delivering enterprise-grade performance across Thyssenkrupp's diverse facilities.
A key advantage of the implementation was HFCL’s OpenWiFi(OWF) compatible Access Points and cloud-based OWF controller, providing flexibility to manage OpenWiFi based APs from other vendors also from the same controller. This centralized solution allowed for real-time monitoring, configuration, and troubleshooting of Access Points, ensuring consistent performance and minimizing downtime. Together this approach ensured that all devices, regardless of origin, deliver stable, high-performance connectivity tailored to Thyssenkrupp's operational needs.
Zero-Touch Provisioning Enabled Simplified and Rapid Deployment
The solution featured zero-touch hardware provisioning, where each unit was pre-configured and shipped with the Operating System installed. This enabled rapid deployment at remote sites with minimal manual intervention. BE Networks' Verity management system provided hyper-automation capabilities, managing the entire hardware lifecycle while automatically identifying each device's role within the network fabric.
The implementation significantly transformed Thyssenkrupp's network infrastructure, delivering streamlined deployment, minimized on-site technical needs, and reliable performance in industrial environments. The integration of Open Networking hardware and Wi-Fi 6 Access Points enhanced connectivity while ensuring future scalability and reduced overall infrastructure costs.
Approximately 60% reduction in both operational and capital expenses was achieved compared to the legacy vendor solution, contributing to significant long-term cost efficiency and total cost of ownership improvements.
