UK govt extends Project Gigabit roll-out in Essex

The UK government has announced an expansion of the Project Gigabit roll-out to reach more than 9,500 additional homes and businesses in Essex. Building on the success of Project Gigabit roll-outs in rural Essex, this is the first contract to also target poor connectivity areas in towns and cities.

Vodafone UK is now offering the Motorola Razr Fold to customers. It is available in Pantone Blackened Blue from GBP 46.50 per month, with an upfront cost of GBP 70. This is based on a 36-month Phone Plan at GBP 39.50 per month, and 24-month 1GB Airtime Plan at GBP 7 per month. The price of the Airtime Plan will increase to GBP 8.50 in April 2027 and GBP 10 per month in April 2028.

Televisa cut to 'BBB-' by S&P on revenue decline, competitive pressure

Mexico's Grupo Televisa has been downgraded to "BBB-" from "BBB" by S&P Global, which also revised the outlook to negative, citing declining revenues and intensifying competition. The ratings agency above all cited a 17.5 percent drop in satellite services revenue at Sky Mexico and a 25.9 percent fall in related revenue-generating units (RGUs).

The FWA service supports speeds of up to 150 Mbps and is also ideal for students, renters and those wanting flexible, reliable broadband connectivity.

Sony and Taiwanese chip foundry TSMC will explore the possibility of establishing a joint venture (JV) to develop next-generation image sensor components, building on their existing partnership in the CMOS image sensing arena. At this stage, the companies have signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding that would see Sony take a majority stake in the new entity. The incorporation of a JV vehicle is dependent on a legally-binding agreement and customary closing conditions being satisfied, Sony added.

Turk Telekom capex, debt rise in Q1 ahead of 5G launch

Turk Telekom reported capital expenditure up 70 percent year-on-year in the first quarter to TRY 17.0 billion, as the company prepared the launch of its 5G network in April. Revenues in the quarter increased 8.7 percent to TRY 64.9 billion, and EBITDA jumped 17.1 percent to TRY 27.4 billion, improving the margin to 42.3 percent, ahead of the operator's forecast for the full year. OTE revenues up 5% in Q1 on postpaid growth, fibre expansion

Greek operator OTE reported first-quarter revenues up 4.9 percent year-on-year to EUR 859 million, while adjusted EBITDAal increased 2.8 percent to EUR 338 million, in line with its full-year outlook. Growth was slightly slower than the previous quarter, due mainly to the fixed segment, where revenues rose just 1.1 percent to EUR 233 million. Mobile service revenue growth remained strong, at 5.5 percent to EUR 258 million, helped by inflation-based price increases in December and the migration to postpaid.

Satellite broadcaster Sky Italia has launched a new promo for those who sign up to its 'Sky Wifi' fixed broadband service and also subscribe to its Entertainment Plus package. Telkom Indonesia has launched the Pukpuk submarine cable system, establishing a direct cross-border connection between Indonesia and Papua New Guinea aimed at improving connectivity in Eastern Indonesia and expanding regional network routes. Vodacom Tanzania has posted a 22.1 percent year-on-year increase in revenue to TZS 1.88 trillion in the fiscal year ended March, underpinned by growth in customers and higher service uptake. The total customer base expanded by 22.3 percent to reach 27.7 million. Net profit climbed by 18.4 percent to TZS 107.1 billion amid sustained momentum in M-Pesa and mobile data services. Earnings per share went up by 18.3 percent to TZS 47.75.

SoftBank reports record full-year revenue and outlines AI-led strategy

SoftBank Corporation reported consolidated revenue of JPY 7.04 trillion for the financial year ended 31 March 2026, up 7.6 percent year on year, with operating income rising 5.4 percent to JPY 1.04 trillion. Net income rose 10.9 percent to JPY 726.6 billion, while net income attributable to owners of the company reached a record high of JPY 550.8 billion. Adjusted EBITDA grew 3.8 percent to JPY 1.82 trillion.

George Metzakis has taken over as CEO of Cyprus operator Cyta from 08 May. He first joined the company in 2023 as Senior Director of Commercial Management and has served as co-deptuy CEO since September 2025. Zain KSA's net profit rises 11% in Q1

Zain KSA has reported that net profit grew by 11 percent to SAR 201 million in the first quarter ended March from SAR 92.8 million in the same period in 2025. Excluding non-recurring profits, net profit growth rose by 1 percent. Revenue amounted to SAR 2.66 billion. EBITDA reached SAR 804 million as Zain continues to accelerate its growth, driven by a clear strategy, disciplined execution and targeted investments in 5G expansion.

Orange Spain (Masorange) has launched a new "operator attack" offer aimed at customers of fast-rising rival Digi, this time halving the price of a premium convergent plan that normally costs EUR 91 a month for a year, reports ADSL Zone. The rate, which includes fibre broadband at 1 Gbps speeds plus two lines with unlimited national calls and unlimited data at 5G+ speeds, is currently available for EUR 45.50 a month.
