MTS service routers added to register of domestic software

Russian operator MTS announced that its proprietary BRAS/BNG service routers have been included in the Register of Russian Software. These routers have replaced equipment from foreign manufacturers across the MTS network in many regions and serve as a key component of a RUB 1 billion project to modernise the core of the fixed internet backbone network.

Kcell to merge with KazNet Media

Kazakhstan mobile operator Kcell plans to merge with its subsidiary, KazNet Media. KazNet Media has been part of the Kcell corporate structure since 2016. Kcell announced a shareholders' meeting for 17 November, where the management board submitted a proposal for the reorganisation of Kcell including the merger of KazNet Media into the company. KazNet Media specialises in software code development and testing.

Canal Plus has confirmed its full-year financial targets in a trading update for the nine months to September, saying that the revenue performance was in line with its expectations. Belgium media study finds sharp rise in AI use, less live TV and radio

Over 40 percent of Belgians use AI, an increase of 15 percentage points in the past year, according to the annual survey by CIM on digital device and media use. This is the biggest swing in behaviour in the wide-ranging study this year, which questioned 7,283 people aged 12 and older. It further found that 88.3 percent of Belgians use the interest every day, up 2 percent points from last year.

Irish telecoms regulator ComReg has announced a settlement with Eircom (Eir) following an investigation into fixed-line number porting failures. ComReg found that the company had breached EU Electronic Communications Code Regulations relating to number porting. Between 01 December 2023 and 31 December 2024, Eircom did not port and activate landline services within the shortest possible time of one working day.

Czech operator Ceske Radiokomunikace (CRA) has announced that WorldRadio, a station dedicated to multicultural and ethnic diversity that has been broadcasting since December 2020, is changing its DAB+ digital distribution. Its programming will now be carried on the DAB+ network operated by the company Play.cz, company acquired by CRA earlier this year. This move will make WorldRadio accessible to the majority of listeners across the Czech Republic.

Ericsson Poland, Iliad unit Play and the IT company Asseco have demonstrated how a multi-layered detection system, leveraging mobile networks, can identify drones and protect strategic sites in Poland, Play said. During a real-time drone detection demonstration, the companies showcased the capabilities of Ericsson's Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC) technology, which utilises the Play mobile network for data transmission.

Boldyn sells New York, New York fibre network to Pilot Fiber

Boldyn Networks has agreed a deal with New York-based fibre operator Pilot Fiber to sell its commercial fibre network assets in New York and New Jersey. Upon completion of the deal, Pilot Fiber's owned network footprint will include over 1,600 route miles of fibre, connecting more than 1,200 buildings and 50 data centres. The deal will close in Q2 2027, subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions. Financial terms were not disclosed.

London-based Community Fibre has launched a flash sale offering its 1 Gbps broadband package for GBP 20 per month with a 24-month contract, instead of the regular price of GBP 25. Irish free-to-air satellite TV service Saorsat has announced its closure in early-2028 as the satellite used to deliver the service reaches its end of life, and will not be replaced. Saorsat has operated since 2012 to provide coverage in areas with no Saorview DTT service reception. Saorsat currently offers TV services from RTE, TG4 and Oireachtas, and these will continue to be available on other TV platforms - including Saorview, eir TV, Virgin Media TV, Sky and Vodafone TV.

Virgin Media O2 is accepting pre-orders for a new PlayStation 5 (PS5) bundle featuring GTA VI. It is available to O2 and non-O2 customers, starting from an upfront payment of GBP 145 plus GBP 12.53 per month over three years for the PS5 Digital GTA VI bundle (RRP 595.99). Customers can also choose the PS5 Disc GTA VI bundle with GBP 155 upfront and GBP 13.61 per month (RRP 644.99).
