Flow activates Jamaica's first commercial 5G network

Flow Jamaica (Liberty Latin America) has officially launched commercial 5G services, the first operator in the country to do so. The network is available in Kingston, Portmore, Spanish Town, May Pen and the North Coast, covering around 70 percent of the population, with additional communities including Mandeville, Santa Cruz, Black River, Savanna-la-Mar, Bull Bay and Morant Bay set to be added in the coming weeks.

Meta announces Threads updates as user base reaches 500 mln monthly

Meta said its Threads social network has reached 500 million monthly active users and that it is gradually moving "Communities" out of beta mode. It has also announced new features in response to customer feedback, such as custom icons and expanded "Champion recognition". A personal setting called "Your Algo" lets users control what appears in their feed, and builds on the "Dear Algo" feature that came out in February.

T2 moves charging to Basis cloud platform

Russian mobile operator T2, a subsidiary of Rostelecom, in cooperation with the company Basis, has launched a locally hosted telecommunications cloud, reports Forbes.ru. The PCFR (Policy and Charging Rules Function) works on the basis of the virtualisation platform Basis Dynamix at T2. By the end of this year, Basis will launch the infrastructure in ten additional data centres for the operator.

Eurofiber announces death of CFO Tollenaar

Edze Tollenaar, the CFO of the Eurofiber Group, has passed away at the age of 60, the company's board announced. He was finance director at the operator since mid-2016 and previously held finance roles at Liberty Global and UPC Netherlands. In a tribute posted on its website, the company said Tollenaar had a "a huge heart and an amazing mind", with the executive "instrumental in the development and success of our company".

Russian satellite TV user base totaled 25.7 million households in the end of 2025, according from a study from the agency TelecomDaily. The indicator includes both users of paid subscriptions and free services. More than 60 percent customers use satellite TV in villages, the indicator totals more than 27 percent in cities having more than 1 million residents.

Polish operator Vectra said that its customers are able to watch matches of the Fifa World Cup free on its Vectra 4K BOX PVR. All the matches are broadcast by TV channels TVP 1, TVP 2  and TVP Sport from the public broadcaster Telewizja Polska, and the channels are available under the Steel package forthe digital TV service, as well as the Start package for the online and IPTV services.

Dutch broadband market grows little in Q1 ahead of Ziggo expansion in H2

The home broadband market in the Netherlands added just 4,000 new connections in Q1 2026. Growth at KPN was offset by losses at Ziggo and slower growth at Odido, and the market ended the period with a total 7.76 million residential lines, according to the latest edition of Telecompaper's quarterly Dutch Consumer Broadband report. Italian broadcasting tower operators Rai Way and EI Towers have agreed to extended negotiations on a potential merger of their activities until the end of June after missing a previously set 15 June deadline. A tie-up between Rai Way, majority owned by state broadcaster RAI, and rival EI Towers, owned by infrastructure fund F2i and commercial broadcaster MFE, would create a joint TV tower company with around 4,700 sites worth nearly EUR 4 billion.

Solvinity files appeal against govt ban on Kyndryl takeover

The Dutch ICT services provider Solvinity and its shareholder Vitruvian Partners have filed a lawsuit against the Dutch government over its decision to block Solvinity's takeover by Kyndryl. The takeover was prohibited in May on public interest grounds following a foreign investment screening. Solvinity told Dutch media that it takes the state's concerns seriously, but the company wants more clarity on the legal basis for the decision so it can prepare its business for the future.

MasOrange, the operator created following the merger between Orange Spain and Masmovil and now fully owned by France's Orange group, said it generated an economic impact of EUR 19.87 billion in Spain in 2025, up 6 percent year on year, according to the company's latest social and environmental impact report. The figure is equivalent to nearly 1.2 percent of the country's GDP and represents a return to society of more than 2.6 times the revenue generated by its activities.
