Dutch smart home security vendor Egardia announced it is launching a unified wholesale offering based on its cloud-driven technology, allowing telecom providers to create branded home security services more easily.  The wholesale Smart Home Security platform is in use at the Swiss operator Sunrise, marking its first commercial implementation.

The European Union is ready to set a minimum age for access to social media online. Ursula von der Leyen, president of the European Commission, made the announcement upon reception of a new report from a special panel set up to look at child safety online. A coalition of major European media owners, telecom operators, data firms and adtech companies has launched the European Media Marketplace, a joint initiative aimed at streamlining digital advertising across the region and reducing fragmentation in media buying. Founding members include Deutsche Telekom's T Advertising Solutions, Equativ, Experian, Orange Advertising, Vodafone, Virgin Media O2, Adevinta units leboncoin and Kleinanzeigen, as well as Vinted and lastminute.com.

STC Pay Bahrain has announced a partnership with Payment International Enterprise (PIE), a Central Bank of Bahrain-licensed fintech provider, to enable STC Pay QR payments on PIE's point-of-sale (POS) devices nationwide. This will connect PIE's expanding merchant network in the retail, hospitality and service industries. Customers can complete transactions by scanning a QR code generated on the PIE POS device through the STC Pay app.

Lithuanian telecom regulator confirms winners of spectrum auction

Lithuanian telecommunications regulator RRT has confirmed the winners of the auction for the 700 MHz, 1,500 MHz and 2,100 MHz radio frequency bands. The operators Telia Lithuania, Tele2 Lithuania and Bite Lithuania will pay a total of EUR 29.03 million to the state budget for the right to use the radio frequencies. The starting price set for the auction was EUR 21.9 million.

The Lesser Poland broadband network, Malopolskiej Sieci Szerokopasmowej has entered a liquidation procedure, reports Telko.in citing the Polish Official Court and Economic Monitor. The entity built a regional broadband network in Southern Poland. MSS Telekom, owned by Hyperion, acts as the operator of the network. According to the court documents, the process was declared 01 May, and creditors were asked in June to present their claims against the company.

NCC aims to end repeated road digging for broadband

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and industry stakeholders have begun steps to end repeated road excavations for fibre-optic cables, by developing a cost-based pricing framework for underground telecom duct sharing, The Punch reported. The scheme was launched at the second stakeholders' forum on the 'Dig Once' policy consultancy study. It aims to slash broadband deployment costs, promote infrastructure sharing and accelerate nationwide fibre roll-out.

Dutch multiplay market stabilises in Q1 after four quarters of decline

The multi-play market in the Netherlands stabilised in the first quarter at 6.7 million subscribers, bringing to an end four consecutive quarters of fewer customers. Revenues were also little changed, with a drop of just 0.03 percent year-on-year to EUR 1.4 billion, according to research by Telecompaper. KPN and Odido realised higher sales, offsetting the drop in revenues at VodafoneZiggo and Delta Fiber.

STL says European patents office has struck off Fujikura's fibre patent

Sterlite Technologies (STL) has claimed a "definitive" victory in its European patents dispute with the Japanese fibre and electrical equipment manufacturer Fujikura. STL said it secured a final, binding and non-appealable ruling at a Technical Board of Appeal convened by the European Patent Office on 24 June. As a result of this ruling, STL claimed Fujikura's European patent EP 3796060 has been revoked in its entirety.

A total of 3.1 million Peruvian mobile users ported their phone number in the first six months of 2026, down 12.3 percent year on year due to market maturity, according to the latest data from telecom regulator Osiptel. AT&T has trialled a drone-detection sensing system powered by 5G cellular infrastructure in partnership with Ericsson. The demonstration paves the way for 5G cellular sites to utilise integrated sensing and communications (ISAC). AT&T said the pilot was able to identify, locate and track multiple drones successfully, leveraging existing cellular towers equipped with Ericsson's massive MIMO radios.

The investment marks the EBRD's first project in Senegal and the package combines long-term financing, local-currency support and the mobilisation of institutional private capital.

Lebanon's ministry of telecommunications has announced plans to deploy a high-speed fibre-optic network in the southern city of Saida, LorientToday reported. Minister Charles Hajj announced the initiative during a visit to the city, outlining plans to expand fibre connectivity to homes, local businesses and public institutions. The network will drastically improve service quality while establishing the digital foundation required for cloud services, digital enterprises and future smart city applications.
