Polish operators agree national roaming during emergencies

Polish network operators Orange Poland, T-Mobile Poland, Polkomtel and Play agreed on the launch of a national roaming system in the country during emergency situations, reports Telko.in citing a speech by Przemyslaw Kuna, the chairman of the national telecommunications regulator UKE during the economic forum Time in Warsaw. According to report, a technical solution is expected to be in place by mid-2026.

LMT installs smart traffic monitoring system in Adazi

Latvian operator LMT has installed a smart traffic monitoring system in the town of Adazi. A device equipped with machine vision software is designed to ensure better traffic safety in downtown Adazi for the next three years. From March, the solution is officially included in the traffic monitoring system and the recorded information about drivers who have not followed traffic rules will be transferred automatically to the Road Traffic Safety Directorate (CSDD) and the municipal police.

Satro to expand pay-TV lineup

Slovak pay TV platform Satro plans to expand the lineup of its pay TV service TouchTV, reports Zive. The expansion will be carried out gradually, with no exact schedule disclosed yet. The new channels will include Music Box Hits, Viasat True Crime, Love Nature, ORF1, ORF2, PRO7, SAT1, TV5 Monde, TVE, TV Polonia, ZDF, A11, ABC TV, Chilli, DVTV Extra and Skvele.

Megafon upgrades mobile network coverage for Moscow flats

Russian operator Megafon has upgraded the indoor coverage of its mobile network in apartment buildings in various locations in the city of Moscow. More than 140,000 residents can now access mobile services in their apartments, elevators and other indoor areas of the buildings. The new indoor infrastructure also supports VoLTE.

Dutch wholesale fibre operator Glaspoort announced that it has completed its 900,000th home passed with fibre. The milestone was at a new-build area in Rijswijk, near The Hague, where offices are being converted to flats.

Kyivstar invests UAH 4.5 bln in back-up power equipment since war starts

Ukrainian operator Kyivstar, a subsidiary of Veon Group, says it has acquired more than 6,000 extra mobile generators to increase the resilience of its network during electricity blackouts caused by the war with Russia. Most of the generators have been transferred to municipal administrations. The operator has invested more than UAH 4.5 billion in the acquisition, installation and maintenance of the equipment for reserve power supplies for its network since 2022.

Go-Ahead tests Littlepay CAATT pre-paid travel pass in Brighton

Littlepay, transit payments processing company, has worked with Google to launch an alternative for physical travel passes, allowing passengers to purchase and use pre-paid travel passes directly in Google Wallet. These tickets are then used by tapping a phone on the bus, like tap-and-go contactless. UK-bases transport group Go-Ahead has rolled out the first live use of Littlepay's Card As Authority to Travel (CAATT) model for pre-paid passes.

Polish pay-TV platform Polsat Box Go said it has added 23 channels from TVN Warner Bros Discovery and Polish public broadcaster TVP to its online television line-up, expanding it to almost 200 channels. There are fourteen new channels from TVP, namely TVP Sport, TVP Info, TVP Seriale, TVP Historia, TVP Kultura, TVP Rozrywka, TVP ABC, TVP Dokument, TVP HD, TVP Kobieta, TVP Nauka, TVP World, TVP Polonia and Belsat. Megafon FY revenue rises 8% as mobile subscribers climb

Russian operator Megafon said its revenue in the 2025 financial year rose by 8.15 percent from 2024 to RUB 525.55 billion, driven by an increase in the mobile subscriber base, usage of mobile services and the growth in the B2B segment. The subscriber base grew by 1.77 percent to 79.37 million.

Applied Optoelectronics (AOI), provider of advanced optical and HFC networking products, has secured its first volume order for 1.6T data centre transceivers from a long-term major hyperscale customer. The customer will use the equipment to increase its network bandwidth to support AI workloads. AOI offers 400G, 800G and 1.6T transceivers for customers.

Telefonica Germany said it is extending its online personal data protection package to its O2 and Blau prepaid customers. Customers can try it out free of charge for 28 days, after which the one-month Flex option costs EUR 2.49. This flexible option is billed every 28 days and renews automatically. A six-month protection package costs EUR 9.99 and the annual package costs EUR 19.99.

Comcast Business provides connectivity for The Players golf tournament

Comcast Business said it is the connectivity provider for The Players, a golf championship at The Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass from 10-15 March. It will use Wi-Fi 7 to service high-traffic fan zones and provide dedicated network infrastructure to support NBC Sports' national broadcast coverage of the PGA Tour event. Comcast Business says nearly 600 miles (966 km) of fibre infrastructure is deployed on the course and for broadcast operations.

London Mayor provides extra funds for mobile phone theft crackdown

The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, has announced additional investment of GBP 4.5 million in the 2026/27 budget to support a major crackdown on mobile phone theft in the city. This will include the establishment of a new Command Cell to coordinate intelligence and respond to mobile phone theft, robbery and other crimes in the West End. The investment will also fund extra enforcement operations and action against shops selling handsets.

Orange Spain (MasOrange) has selected Barcelona-based Nearby Computing as a strategic technology partner to advance its enterprise 5G, private network and edge computing services. The collaboration centres on Nearby Computing's orchestration platform, NearbyOne, which integrates management of networks, computing resources and services across distributed environments to help Orange scale operations, reduce complexity and control costs.

Currys boosts minimum hourly wage for store workers by 4 percent

UK electricals retailer Currys has announced a 4 percent increase in the minimum hourly rate for skilled store workers to GBP 13.01 from 29 March, rising to GBP 14.26 per hour in London. This is higher than the incoming National Living Wage of GBP 12.71 per hour for over 21s. This latest increase means that hourly pay has risen by 37 percent over the last three years. It will benefit around 7,800 employees at 280 UK stores, regardless of age.

UK fibre altnet Netomnia has reached the milestone of delivering more than 65,000 serviceable premises from the Wednesbury Exchange in the West Midlands. This forms part of the group's wider full-fibre network build across the UK, which has now reached over 3 million serviceable premises. Billy Ray, Netomnia's FNO Manager, said the milestone reflected the group's commitment to providing "infrastructure that delivers lasting value for communities".

Norwegian 2026 broadband subsidy round allocates NOK 159 mln and includes mobile coverage for first time

Norwegian telecoms regulator Nkom has announced a broader public broadband subsidy scheme that now includes mobile coverage, with a NOK 159 million allocation for for 2026. The change allows government funds to be used to improve mobile coverage along roads and in areas with weak signals, for example. The scheme also facilitates more comprehensive broadband development projects than in 2025.

Telecom Italia (TIM) is offering all mobile customers who attend events at Milan's San Siro stadium a free trial of its 5G Priority service, reports Mondo Mobile Web, citing SMS sent to users. The option, normally only available to subscribers to the TIM 5G Ultra service, includes full priority access to the company's 5G network at download speeds of up to 2Gbps.

Nordic critical digital infrastructure provider Netnod has announced the introduction of Robust Digitalised Organisations (RDO), a service to enable the public sector, critical service providers and civil society to take control of their digital vulnerabilities. Netnod said security considerations often lag behind the expansion of digital systems within operations. Organisations in the municipal sector in particular tend to lack a clear map of their actual vulnerabilities when systems come under pressure.

BH Telecom agrees loan for Telemach takeover

Bosnia and Herzegovina's state-owned operator BH Telecom is taking out a syndicated loan of BAH 390 million to finance its planned takeover of Telemach's local operations, SeeNews reports. BH Telecom director Amel Kovacevic said the seven-year loan carries interest at a fixed rate of 3.49 percent. The remaining portion of the purchase price will be financed with the company's own funds, Kovacevic said, without disclosing the total acquisition price.
