Lifecell reports 37% higher LTE traffic

Ukrainian operator Lifecell announced that LTE traffic totaled 12 GB per user on its network in April, up by 37 percent year-on-year. The total VoLTE traffic soared by 152 percent over the period. At the beginning of this year, almost 29 percent of all voice traffic was transferred on the LTE network of Lifecell.

Megafon offers free data for transfers from iCloud after Apple accounts blocked

Russian operator Megafon is offering customers free data transfers from iCloud using the application Cloud Mail from 13 to 19 May. This means customers will not pay for the data traffic to transfer their files to the local storage. From 01 April, Russian operators, under an order from the Ministry of Digitisation, blocked Apple account purchases over mobile accounts. That means subscribers of the paid iCloud+ subscription storage from Apple could no longer continue the services from Russia.

Russian internet company Yandex has approved a RUB 50 billion share buyback programme, reports Vedomosti. The programme is valid for buying shares on the Moscow Exchange for two years. The company Yantex, a subsidiary of Yandex, will carry out the programme, and the acquired shares will be used under the long-term incentive programme for staff.

Tele2 Latvia reports data traffic up 8% in 2025

Voice traffic at Tele2 Latvia dropped to 1.9 billion mobile minutes in 2025, down by 8 percent year-on-year. The figure has fallen 27 percent since 2.6 billion minutes in 2021. In contrast, mobile data traffic grew by 8 percent on the Tele2 Latvia network in 2025 and is up by 93 percent against 2021.

Spanish FTTH lines top 18 mln in March, over 90% of fixed line total

The total number of active fibre to the home (FTTH) connections in Spain reached 18.01 million in March 2026, up over 1 million year on year and around 76,800 sequentially, according to the latest official monthly update from sector watchdog CNMC that complements its mobile report. Fibre connections account for over 91 percent of the fixed line total of 19.71 million, the latter up from 18.97 million a year earlier and equivalent to nearly 40 lines per 100 inhabitants.

Ireland investigates Instagram, Facebook recommender systems

Irish broadcasting and online media regulator Coimisiun na Mean (Cnam) has opened two separate formal investigations into Meta under the EU Digital Services Act (DSA). The investigations will examine whether Meta-owned Instagram and Facebook have violated Articles 27 and 25 of the DSA. This is in response to concerns about potential 'dark patterns', or deceptive/manipulative user interface designs, which could stop users from exercising their right to select a recommender system that does not use profiling.

Technetix appoints Liberty Global MD for networks as director and advisor

Broadband infrastructure provider Technetix has announced the appointment of Luk Bruynseels, managing director for networks and capital allocation at Liberty Global, to its board of directors from 22 April. Bruynseels will also serve on Technetix' strategic advisory board. At the same time, Colin Buechner, former chief network officer of Liberty Global, will step down from the Technetix board after nearly a decade of service.

Bell Canada has appointed local and regional contractors to deliver the early phases of its new 300MW Bell AI Fabric data centre in Sherwood, Saskatchewan. T-Systems connects Ford suppliers to Catena-X data platform

T-Systems, the subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom, announced it is connecting 70 supplies of automaker Ford to the Catena-X data platform it manages for the automotive industry. With the integrated platform, Ford can access reliable, standardized, and traceable CO2 data along the entire supply chain in order to meet its regulatory requirements and sustainability goals, and track the carbon footprint of the products. T-Systems also supports tier 1 suppliers, from consultation to data exchange.

Kcell invests in private networks projects

Kazakhstan operator Kcell said it completed more than ten projects on the deployment of private LTE and 5G networks in 2025. In a presentation at Gitex AI Kazakhstan, the operator outlined how it has invested KZT 102.8 billion in the development of its network in 2025, and since 2023 has deployed 2,242 5G base stations across the country.

Arista Networks reported a USD 2.7 billion turnover in the first quarter to end-March, an increase of 35.1 percent year-on-year. Net profits rose by over 25 percent to roughly USD 1 billion as Arista benefited from surging demand for its data centre and enterprise campus equipment. Product sales grew 36.6 percent to USD 2.3 billion, with services turnover up 27.3 percent annually.
