Dutch FTTH Networks 2024

The report Dutch FTTH Networks 2024 describes the state of the Dutch fiber to the home market as per 31 December 2024, and provides figures on market indicators such as Homes Passed, Homes Connected and Homes Activated and network duplication, profiles and analyzes developments at key market players and looks at the market issues which marked the period and set the stage for future development. It also includes our expectations for 2025 and beyond. For this annual FTTH report, we conducted interviews with various market participants. Several major and new players are presented and there are brief discussions on a number of hot issues in the broadband and FTTH market.

Doelstelling van KPN is 80 procent van Nederland aan te sluiten op glasvezel per eind 2026. Gegeven het huidige tempo en het uitblijven van overnames, die hangen op goedkeuring door de ACM, dreigt de onderneming onder dit target te blijven steken. De vraag is ook wat KPN met de resterende 20 procent van het land voor ogen heeft. Zonder twijfel geeft het bestuur op 5 november antwoord op deze vraag, tijdens een strategiedag. Wij lopen alvast vooruit op wat er komen gaat.

ODF names new CCO, CFO

Wholesale operator Open Dutch Fiber has named Aschwin Hollander and Koen Cluistra to its management team, as respectively Chief Financial Officer and Chief Commercial Officer. Hollander has held multiple roles as CGO, including management positions at Stork and most recently Dieseko, and will help with strengthening the financial base at ODF to support its growth plans. Cluistra worked until recently at VodafoneZiggo as chief marketing officer for the consumer business and before that in similar roles at KP

Netherlands fibre operators shift focus to security, international issues

Fibre network operators in the Netherlands are shifting their attention to issues such as security, digital sovereignty and European cooperation, now that the roll-out of nationwide coverage is nearing completion, according to the annual report from the Fiber Carrier Association. The industry group represents fibre-optic network operators in the country.

KPN CEO calls for focus on value creation in telecom industry

KPN CEO Joost Farwerck reflected on the past 25 years in the telecom industry in a keynote address at Telecompaper's annual Telecom Insights conference. Much has changed in that time, making it more difficult for telecom operators to earn a profit, he said.

Ziggo expands footprint to FTTH with Delta Fiber network access

VodafoneZiggo has announced plans to expand its services to the Delta Fiber network. The wholesale access deal means the cable operator will reach around 600,000 more premises with its services, taking it to nearly national coverage of the Netherlands. The Ziggo broadband and TV services will launch on the Delta Fiber FTTH network in 2026.

Open Dutch Fiber achieves positive FY EBITDA after revenues jump 72%

The wholesale operator Open Dutch Fiber achieved a positive EBITDA of EUR 2.3 million in 2024, reversing a loss of EUR 8.3 million the previous year after its turnover jumped 72 percent to EUR 35.5 million. Around two-thirds of revenues came from its anchor customer on the FTTH network, the operator Odido, according to the recently filed ODF annual report.

Glaspoort sets aside EUR 225 mln for Delta lines takeover

Dutch operator Glaspoort has set aside EUR 225 million for its planned acquisition of 200,000 fibre lines from Delta Fiber. The company disclosed the amount for the first time in its annual report for 2024. The deal was first announced in May last year and is still awaiting clearance from the competition regulator ACM.

Glaspoort moves to operating profit in 2024 as revenues jump 74%

The Dutch wholesale fibre operator Glaspoort reported revenues of EUR 52.8 million for 2024, up 73.8 percent from the previous year thanks to the steady expansion of its network. The company moved to an operating profit of EUR 2.1 million, compared to a loss of EUR 6.3 million in 2023, according to the annual report filed with the commercial register.

Het Hogeland calls for provincial funding for remote fibre coverage

The city council in the Dutch municipality Het Hogeland has approved a motion calling on the province of Groningen to take swift action to bring fast broadband to outlying areas. Around 5,000 adresses there have no fibre internet still. The roll-out has stalled since the operator Rodin went under. Its business was acquired by Delta Netwerk, but the company is still managing the fallout of Rodin's bankruptcy.

Netherlands FTTH subscribers increase over 5% in Q4

The Netherlands ended 2024 with 3.19 million fibre broadband subscribers. The number of subscribers rose 5.3 percent in the last quarter of the year, from 3.19 million in Q3, according to the latest quarterly market monitor from the ACM. Homes covered with fibre increased to 8.26 million from 7.94 million in the same period, meaning the activation rate rose half a percentage point to 38.7 percent.

FTTH roll-out slows down in Netherlands as focus shifts to activating lines

The roll-out of FTTH networks slowed down in the Netherlands in 2024 as coverage approached 88 percent of homes. The number of homes passed still grew by 1.06 million to 8.72 million in total, but the number of new homes passed was 30 percent less than the previous year. The focus at operators shifted to connecting more homes and increasing subscriber numbers on fibre. Glasvezeluitrol in Nederland vertraagt; focus verschuift naar activatie

De uitrol van glasvezel in Nederland vertraagde in 2024, voornamelijk doordat glasvezel al bij 88 procent van de huishoudens beschikbaar is. Het aantal Homes Passed (HP) groeide weliswaar met 1,06 miljoen naar 8,72 miljoen, maar deze aanwas daalde 30 procent ten opzichte van 2023. De nadruk kwam steeds meer te liggen op het aansluiten van woningen en het verhogen van het aantal klanten dat glasvezel gebruikt. Odido heeft grootste glasvezelbereik in Nederland

Van alle vaste-internetaanbieders via glasvezel is Odido beschikbaar op de meeste woonadressen in Nederland. De provider had in 2024 de grootste FTTH-footprint: langs 8,1 miljoen huishoudens ligt een glasvezelnet waarop ze Odido kunnen kiezen. Freedom Internet volgt op de tweede plaats met 7,4 miljoen homes passed (HP). Op de derde plaats staat Kliksafe met 7,1 miljoen HP. Dit blijkt uit het Dutch FTTH Networks 2024-rapport dat Telecompaper kortgeleden publiceerde.

Odido achieves widest FTTH reach in Netherlands

Odido has the biggest fibre footprint in the Netherlands, with its services available to 8.1 million households at the end of 2024. Freedom Internet came second with 7.4 million homes passed, and Kliksafe was third, according to the Dutch FTTH Networks 2024 report published by Telecompaper.
