FTTH in the Netherlands 2023

The report FTTH in the Netherlands 2023 describes the state of the Dutch fiber to the home market as per 31 December 2022, and provides figures on market indicators, analyzes developments at key market players and looks at the market issues which marked the period and set the stage for future development. It also includes our expectations for 2023.

For this annual FTTH report, we conducted interviews with various market participants. Several major and new players are presented and there are brief discussions on a number of hot issues in the broadband and FTTH market.

Each year, since 2008, Telecompaper publishes its FTTH report, analyzing the Dutch fibre to the home market. Our FTTH database, called the Telecompaper FTTH Monitor, contains all local and regional FTTH projects in the Netherlands on a detailed scale.

Netherlands sets new mobile data record in Q3, passes 2.5 mln FTTH subscribers

The number of fibre broadband subscribers in the Netherlands rose by 91,000 in the third quarter of 2023 to a total 2.57 million, according to the latest figures from regulator ACM. In the same period, cable lost 27,000 broadband customers and copper 39,000.

Netherlands sets new record with 1.5 mln more homes passed with fibre in 2023

The Dutch fibre market has set a new record, with over 1.5 million new homes passed with FTTH in 2023. The country has now reached 7 million fibre-optic access lines, good for around 90 percent penetration, according to data from industry group NLconnect.

Netbeheerders, gemeenten en vakbond FNV maken zich zorgen over de inzet van arbeidsmigranten bij de aanleg van glasvezel. ACM defends mobile competition but favours big players in fixed

ACM decides against wholesale broadband regulation in Netherlands

Dutch regulator ACM has decided against regulating the market for local wholesale access after its analysis of the fixed broadband market based on five geographic segments found no signs of a dominant market player. With open fibre networks expected to cover the entire country within three years, sufficient competition on the broadband market should be assured, the regulator concluded. The draft decision is open for public comment until 04 September and still needs clearance from the European Commission bef

ODF maakt werk van homes connected met de oprichting van ODC

Open Dutch Fiber is met een noodvaart glasvezel aan het uitrollen op heel veel plekken in Nederland. Onlangs kwam de teller op 850.000 homes passed, terwijl dat begin dit jaar 600.000 was.

Rendo Fiber's glasvezelbereik groeit naar 85.000 huishoudens in 2022

Rendo's glasvezeldochter Re-Net zag het aantal homes passed in 2022 met 61,3 procent naar 85.000 groeien. Tegerlijkertijd steeg het aantal geplande homes passed met 37,3 procent naar meer dan 96.000. Dit blijkt uit het jaarverslag van de regionale energie aanbieder Rendo Groep (Drenthe, Overijssel). Re-net heeft de ambitie om door te groeien naar 100.000 homes passed, blijkt uit het jaarverslag. Om die reden is het bedrijf in 2022 begonnen met het automatiseren van de operationele processen.

KPN neemt glasvezelnetwerken over van Primevest

KPN versterkt zijn positie in de grote steden door de glasvezelnetwerken van Primevest Capital Partners aan zijn eigen glasvezelnetwerk toe te voegen. Het betreft in totaal 127.000 adressen in Den Haag, Rotterdam en Eindhoven. De transactie wordt naar verwachting eind juni 2023 afgerond. Financiële details van de transactie worden niet bekendgemaakt.

KPN to acquire Primevest fibre network in large cities

KPN has agreed the takeover of the FTTH network built by Primevest Capital Partners in the Netherlands. The network covers around 127,000 premises in Rotterdam, The Hague and Eindhoven. KPN expects to complete the deal by the end of the month; no financial details were disclosed.

Glaspoort reaches nearly EUR 16 mln in revenues in 2022, 73K active connections

Dutch wholesale fibre operator Glaspoort achieved a turnover of EUR 15.85 million in 2022, its first full year of operations. The company was set up as a joint venture by KPN and the pensions investor APG. According to Glaspoort's annual report filed at the commercial register, nearly all its revenue comes from the consumer market, with only 0.1 percent from business connections.

Open Dutch Fiber passes 1 mln lines planned in 34 municipalities

Open Dutch Fiber has announced plands to bring its fibre network to over 1 million premises already. The joint venture first announced in July 2021 by DTCP and KKR is ready to build 1.017 million lines under its current plans. We note that the company has also stopped some projects and done two acquisitions.
