PTS fines Telia SEK 100,000 for reporting privacy breach late

Swedish telecoms regulator PTS is imposing a fine of SEK 100,000 on Telia Company for reporting a privacy breach late. In January 2025, Telia disclosed a customer's name and address without authorisation to another customer. It should have reported the breach shortly after it occurred, but did not do so until early April 2025.

Personal Argentina adds Netflix to premium TV offer

Argentinian operator Personal (Telecom Argentina) announced its first exclusive partnership with Netflix to add the OTT service as a new option within its premium Flow+ entertainment offering. The deal means customers can choose between two subscriptions to Pack Futbol, HBO, Disney+, Universal+ and now Netflix, and even switch between them every 30 days.

Odido revenues up nearly 3% to EUR 2.4 billion in 2025

Dutch operator Odido reported revenues of EUR 2.379 billion for 2025, up 2.9 percent from the previous year. The growth was driven by expansion on the fixed market, where sales rose almost 11 percent to EUR 560 million, according to its recently filed annual report. Mobile revenues rose 0.8 percent to EUR 1.38 billion, supported by the fixed-wireless service 'Klik&Klaar' and more mass market Sims, helping offset a tough corporate market.

Technetix FY sales jump 54% on North American HFC equipment sales

UK-based broadband equipment vendor Technetix benefited from North American sales of 1.8 GHz hybrid fibre coax splitters and taps to advance its growth strategy in FY25. Group sales lifted 54 percent from the previous year to USD 112.4 million, primarily reflecting increased demand in the Americas region including deals with 'tier-1' North American clients. Sales in the Americas soared 156 percent to USD 68.9 million.

Peru to exceed 3.5 mln blocked 'high-risk' handsets this month

Peruvian telecom services regulator Osiptel said it will block another 360,000 devices in April as part of its campaign against the use of stolen or illegal handsets linked to criminal activities. The latest initiative carried out in three stages of 100,000 devices each on 14, 21 and 28 April will result in the blocking of 960,000 devices in the first four months of 2026 and over 3.5 million since April 2025.

Telkom Business launches Prepaid Compact Fibre in South Africa

Telkom Business has introduced Prepaid Compact Fibre, targeting SMEs and start-ups in South Africa that require flexible, high-speed connectivity without the constraints of long-term contracts or credit vetting, said TechCentral. The product combines an installed fibre line with uncapped internet access activated through time-based recharge vouchers. Customers pay for a block of time rather than a block of data, then top up through Telkom's online portal when the voucher expires.

GSMA organises 'Tokyo Accord' in boost to Japanese mobile industry

Japan's mobile operators NTT Docomo, Rakuten Mobile, KDDI and SoftBank have signed a new agreement reinforcing their commitment to cooperation on developing 6G technology. The so-called 'Tokyo Accord' was also signed by regional operators Global Telecom and LG Uplus, along with three Asian 6G alliances, at the Digital Nation Summit Tokyo organised by the GSMA.

HostAfrica, a provider of web hosting, domain and virtual private server (VPS) services, has introduced dedicated Nvidia RTX PRO GPU servers at Digital Parks Africa's (DPA) Samrand data centre, launching a localised GPU as a Service offering. The platform is built to support organisations running artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, rendering and other data-intensive workloads. It is powered by Nvidia RTX 6000 Blackwell Server Edition GPUs with 96GB of GDDR7 memory.

Viaccess-Orca announced that Spanish operator MasOrange has implemented its technologies across IPTV and OTT platforms to drive a major push into targeted advertising and multi-brand TV services. NTT starts tests of satellite MIMO technology for LPWA IoT services

NTT announced the start of operations of a new satellite IoT platform using MIMO technology in the 920 MHz band to connect  multiple data devices. The project is developed with the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) using a LEO satellite launched in December 2025. They have commenced on-orbit demonstration experiments and will show the first results at the Tsukuba Forum in late May.

Nscale said it has expanded its agreement with Microsoft to deliver more high-performance AI compute capacity in Norway in 2027. The 230 MW Nscale Narvik campus will add more than 30,000 Nvidia Rubin GPUs. This builds on Nscale's announcement in March that it would deploy more than 100,000 Vera Rubin NVL7 GPUs in Europe next year to support Microsoft at Nscale sites in the UK, Norway and elsewhere.

Swiss operator Sunrise has appointed Veit Kment as the new Chief Consumer Officer Flanker Brands and member of the Executive Committee, effective 01 June. He replaces Stefan Fuchs, who is leaving Sunrise at his own request to take up the role of CEO at Dutch operator Delta Fiber. Veit joins Sunsrise form McKinsey in Zurich.

Mexico's Digital Transformation and Telecommunications Agency (ATDT) has signed a collaboration agreement with Microsoft Mexico to boost cybersecurity across government institutions under President Claudia Sheinbaum's administration. The deal is part of the National Cybersecurity Plan 2025-2030, which aims to strengthen institutional capabilities and develop preventive security measures in public entities.

Hong Kong adds more than 1 million mobile lines in December 2025

Hong Kong passed 34.33 million mobile lines in December 2025, an increase of around 620,047 lines from the previous month, according to the latest figures from the Office of the Communications Authority (OFCA). Most of the growth was in the prepaid market, which counted 23.54 million SIMs in December. 4G was still the dominant technology, with 24.34 million users, while the 5G base increased by 254,214 users to 9.69 million.

Nscale signs site agreement for Finnish data centre

Nscale said it has signed a site securing and development agreement (SSDA) with energy company Forum, which is developing a data centre site in the Sievari industrial area of the Finnish town Harjavalta. ‍The total power capacity of the data centre will be determined during the next design and permitting phases. Fortum reached a planning reservation agreement with Harjavalta municipal council in June 2024 to cover marketing, zoning and grid connection support for a potential data centre site in Sievari. Nsc

Mauritania's four telecom operators - Mauritel, Mattel, Rimatel, Chinguitel - bid a combined MRU 1.08 billion (USD 27 million) to secure 5G licences, Ecofin reported. The Mauritanian Regulatory Authority (ARE) has thus designated Mauritel, Rimatel, Chinguitel and Mattel as the provisional winners of 5G licences following a tender process concluded on 30 March. Mauritel offered MRU 305 million, Rimatel proposed MRU 265 million, Chinguitel offered MRU 260.5 million, and Mattel submitted a bid of MRU 252.6 mil

TTK to expand public Wi-Fi networks at airports

Russian operator TTK announced plans to expand its public Wi-Fi networks in train stations across the country as well as airports. Networks are already available in the Sheremetyevo Airport in Moscow, as well as in Sochi Airport. The operator also plans to improve the quality of services by implementing new technologies, such as Wi-Fi 6, as well as installing modern equipment.
