Alphabet Q2: ad business running at full steam, EU fine serves as warning

Alphabet managed to maintain growth of over 20 percent in Q2 2018. While the gross margin fell and the EU fine put a dent in the operating margin, the result was still over 20 percent excluding the fine. The company's strong liquidity position showed little effect from the USD 5 billion paid for the fine. The advertising business is running at full stream, although it's unclear how much that has to do with the tied Android sales for which the company was fined by the EU. Google's 'Other Bets' still contribute little, but Google Other and AI make an excellent base for diversification following
