Dutch data retention proposal attracts widespread criticism

Thursday 8 January 2015 | 12:35 CET | Author: Bart Garvelink | Background
Lawyers, privacy organisations and industry players have all come out against the proposed new law on retaining communications data for law enforcement purposes. The Dutch Hosting Provider Association (DHPA) is also opposed to a new requirement for service providers to store telecommunications data, according to its response to the public consultation, which closed 31 December 2014. XS4ALL, Privacy First, the journalists union NVJ and Bits of Freedom also criticised the proposal. The consultation generated 53 responses, all negative.
