German market: Telekom biggest, Unitymedia most profitable

There are ten major players in the German market, as well as many more smaller ones. While the high profitability at Telekom Deutschland and Unitymedia is not so surprising, it is remarkable how weak the position is of the others - Vodafone (including Kabel Deutschland), Telefonica Deutschland (including O2 and E-Plus), Sky (satellite TV), Tele Columbus (cable operator including Primacom and Pepcom) and QSC (mainly business services). They are all in the midst of reorganisations and integrating acquisitions. Almost as surprising is the high profitability of the three big virtual operators:
