Germany plans new multiband spectrum auction

Germany plans to hold a new multi-band spectrum auction in 2015 including existing former GSM frequencies in the 900 MHz and 1,800 MHz band as well as new frequencies for mobile broadband in the 700 MHz and 1,500 MHz bands. All spectrum will be technology-free. To open up the 700 MHz band, a consensus between federal and state governments and media offices is needed as the spectrum is currently in use for digital terrestrial television services. The auction will take place in Q2 2015 with or without 700 MHz spectrum as German regulator BNA cut Telefonica/E-Plus's licences for 900 MHz and
