Irish mobile market market consolidation leads to lower prices, fewer plans

Median prices in Ireland for Sim-only plans have gone down since Q3 2013, according to research by Telecompaper on mobile pricing in Europe. The merger between O2 Ireland and 3 Ireland was announced in June 2013 and completed in May 2014. Contrary to what many feared, the merger has not led to higher prices in Ireland, based on our comparative analysis of the total cost of ownership (TCO) for postpaid plans. However, the choice in the types of plans and the number of plans on offer in Q1 2016 were much smaller than in Q3 2013.
