Is KPN's strategy following Telefonica?

Friday 29 April 2011 | 14:46 CET | Author: Tim Poulus | Background
KPN has announced plans to cut 20-25 percent of its workforce. More details will follow on 10 May, when its new CEO Eelco Blok announces his strategy for the coming years during an Investor Day. He's already made clear that KPN needs to change all its propositions (mobile as well as fibre). The reason for the job cuts is that revenues from mobile calls and SMS have fallen dramatically in a short period. The cause: the quickly growing popularity of pinging (BlackBerry), WhatsApp (other platforms) and chat applications for sending free text messages via a mobile data connection.
