Last week in telecoms: more fibre JVs, HBO Max starts in Europe, Facebook and Cisco embrace VR

Monday 1 November 2021 | 12:25 CET | Author: Tim Poulus | Background
More fibre network joint ventures are coming, with news in the past week from Ireland, Germany, Belgium and the US. Amazon is also increasing its presence on the telecom market via its router unit Eero, satellite project Kuiper and quantum computing. HBO Max launched in its first European markets with aggressive promotional offers, while Netflix benefited from an upgrade in its credit ratings, and the Roblox gaming platform went down for three days. Facebook embraced VR and decided to change its name to Meta, and Cisco is also working on holograms for its Webex platform.
