Last week in telecoms: Xavier Niel consolidates Polish market, Liberty Global returns to Germany, Canal+ buys Filmbox

Monday 27 September 2021 | 10:56 CET | Author: Tim Poulus | Background
Xavier Niel continued his contribution to European consolidation with the takeover of UPC Poland. UPC's owner Liberty Global announced a new FTTP joint venture in Germany with InfraVia, and the NENT Group updated its plans to expand to more countries, working in part in partnership with local telecom operators. Netflix held a 'fan day' to build hype around its originals, and Disney+ is planning something similar in November. Vivendi completed the spin-off of UMG and its subsidiary Canal+ acquired SPI, owner of the Filmbox and Film1 channels, among others.
