MasterCard aims to roll out biometric authentication for mobile payments in Europe

Monday 22 February 2016 | 09:49 CET | Author: Marion ter Welle | Background
MasterCard and International Card Services (ICS) recently announced that the pilot with ABN AMRO customers in the Netherlands has been a great success. Ninety percent of the participants would like to continue using biometric authentication instead of using a password. Three quarters of the participants felt that biometric solutions would reduce fraudulous activities. By moving ahead with biometric authentication MasterCard positions itself at the forefront of mobile payments ahead of the expected launches of Apple Pay and Samsung Pay in Europe in the next few years.
