Opta finds room for less regulation

Dutch regulator Opta presented its regulatory outlook and number of draft decisions on 23 June. According to chairman Chris Fonteijn, the regulator's preliminary conclusion is that there is a tendency towards more competition. As a result, the regulator broke with previous trends, and decided to not regulate the cable market and lighten the obligations for incumbent KPN. Fonteijn said a number of trends have developed more quickly than was expected in the prior regulatory period. For example in 2009, Opta expected that digital TV penetration would reach around 62 percent by the end of 2012,
