OTT services not yet affecting mobile, fixed calling

Thursday 18 July 2013 | 16:12 CET | Author: Sanne de Bruyckere | Background
A growing number of over-the-top (OTT) services for low-price calls is available over the (mobile) internet, such as Skype, Viber and Facetime. Calls are often just a few cents a minute or even free with users on the same network. These services are a growing threat to traditional operators providing fixed and mobile telephony. In April 2013, Telecompaper looked at whether consumers are calling more, less or the same with fixed, mobile and OTT VoIP services. Around 2,000 consumers participated in the survey.
