Proximus outperforms in Belgian broadband market, but new quad-play competition coming

Proximus continues to outpace rival Telenet in the Belgian broadband market in terms of customer growth. According to the latest figures from Telecompaper, Proximus added five times as many new customers in the first quarter of 2016 as Telenet. Nevertheless, continued price rises at Telenet mean the Flemish operator has maintained its higher share of revenues in the market, despite slowing customer growth. The challenge for Telenet going forward will be to realise the potential of the quad-play market, following its takeover of mobile operator Base and the re-entry of Orange as a competitor
