Slower uptake of NFC mobile payments leads to drop in shipments of NFC Sims

In its latest report on the shipments of Sims worldwide, the SIMalliance stated that the NFC ecosystem is still expanding, despite a drop in 2016 of the number of NFC Sims shipped globally. Next to the continuing effects of the closure of Softcard, the drop was caused by the disappointing take-up of NFC based mobile payments. However, in some regions the SIMalliance sees rising demand for NFC based mobile payments.
