Teenagers lead growth in mobile messaging

Tuesday 16 July 2013 | 13:32 CET | Author: Sanne de Bruyckere, Tine Niezink | Background
Quarter after quarter the number of SMS sent in the Netherlands is falling, as mobile users increasingly embrace messaging services such as WhatsApp. The Dutch are still sending messages though, over chat apps and in postings to social media sites. Telecompaper asked its panel of almost 1,900 Dutch consumers whether they sent more, less or the same amount of messages via various media in Q1 2013 compared to previous months. The results show that the drop in the number of SMS is compensated by growth in messages sent over apps and social media.
