Telco takeovers difficult to predict, but cooperation still important strategy

France Telecom announced its intention to sell activities in Switzerland, Austria and Portugal. These include Orange Switzerland (100%), Orange Austria (35%) and Sonaecom (20%). The company is also interested in acquisitions on the Spanish market. Belgium (Mobistar) and Romania have escaped for the moment from any divestment plans, after these assets were also put up for review. The operator is also looking at its operations in Africa and the Middle East and the Enterprise division. It has minority stakes also in Mauritius and Tunisia.
