Telecom on the way to a new division of markets

Tuesday 5 March 2013 | 15:59 CET | Author: Tim Poulus | Background
European incumbent operators, via their lobby group ETNO, recently called for the EC to allow more market consolidation with less resistance from national competition regulators. The market is fragmented and struggling to compete against over-the-top providers. This makes cost savings imperative, and working on building economies of scale is an obvious solution. (Of course they're also working on driving sales through price increases, new services and cooperating with OTT players. Another strategy is to cut OTT providers out of the equation and offer their own OTT services.)
