'Unlimited' mobile broadband no more, European operators embrace volume-based pricing

The days of truly unlimited mobile broadband are over, as almost all operators in Western Europe have now switched to volume-based pricing. According to Telecompaper's latest analysis of stand-alone mobile broadband packages (for tablets, laptops and modems, excluding voice), over 95 percent of postpaid plans on the market are volume-based, offering a certain amount of MB each month before a cut-off or speed reduction. Only 4.5 percent of the over 300 plans surveyed offered truly unlimited data, with no data caps, speed reductions or FUPs.  In terms of pricing, the monthly cost of mobile
