Will John Malone save the Ziggo-Vodafone joint venture with content rights?

The pending merger of Ziggo and Vodafone Netherlands is surrounded in uncertainty. For the international telecom world, it offers an exciting test case of bringing together a cable operator and a mobile operator. While Vodafone has acquired cable operators before, and Liberty Global bought Base in Belgium, the two will share management of this new company in the Netherlands. All these mergers show how difficult it is to beat the incumbents (DT, KPN, Proximus), but the driving force behind the Dutch and Belgian cases is even tougher: John Malone.
