Ziggo Q1: broadband positive, telephony negative

Ziggo reported first-quarter revenues up 1.7 percent. Excluding the takeover of Esprit Telecom, revenue was down 0.8 percent, while excluding Esprit and decoder sales, organic revenue rose 0.8 percent. In addition to higher personnel costs and costs for sales and marketing, two financial items resulted in a net loss for the quarter: banking fees of EUR 35 million for refinancing and a writedown of financial instruments costing EUR 55 million. Capex increased by 41 percent to EUR 94 million, due mainly to set-top boxes and network expansion, including support for mobile and TV Everywhere
