Ziggo-UPC merger likely to get greenlight, but remedies and conditions still possible

Ziggo and UPC Netherlands, the two largest cable operators in the Netherlands, are planning to merge, with Liberty Global their new parent company. Regulators are expected to approve the merger. On the surface, little is expected to change as a result of the deal, at least if we look at the primary effects. There is no network overlap, and Ziggo and UPC do not compete with each other. But of course some things will change, otherwise there would be no point to the merger. Below we look at the underlying arguments on which the merger will be judged. In this sense, it makes little difference
