KPN, Belgacom, T-Mobile take different approaches to OTT threat

After KPN, Belgacom is the latest operator to report an unexpected slowdown in the use of mobile voice services. At KPN, it was mainly SMS revenues that were suffering from the growing popularity of applications such as WhatsApp, Facebook and Ping (BlackBerry), which offer free messaging among users. But all the more remarkable is a statement from T-Mobile Netherlands: "The negative effect of lower termination rates was partially offset by a rise in revenue from monthly charges, roaming, text messages, and an increase in the number of handsets sold". Thank you for the information. I think from here we're only going to see a decrease in SMS usage, given the exploding popularity of smartphones and the increasing regulations mandating net-neutrality.
