3 Denmark supplies Maersk with private network at Port of Aarhus

Mobile operator 3 Denmark said it has won a contract to provide Maersk subsidiary APM Terminals with a private 4G network at the Port of Aarhus that is upgradeable to 5G. It will be supplied by enterprise service arm 3Business. The operator said it has established a private APN system on its public network, giving APM Terminals the advantages of a private network, without the cost or hassle of owning or leasing frequencies.

3 Danmark said the APN means that APM Terminals' traffic will run via the operator's public masts in the port area, without coming into contact with the public part of its network. The operator has also set up an extra mast in the locality for round-the-clock monitoring and service, enabling operational security alongside ample capacity and speed at all times.

Initially, the private network at the port will be used by APM Terminals' workers via wireless devices to run machinery and equipment at the harbour. It can eventually get an upgrade to 5G so that APM Terminals could expand use of the private network for applications such as IoT.
