Deutsche Telekom said it is setting up a campus network at the Port of Hamburg in partnership with HHLA Sky, a subsidiary of logistics company Hamburger Hafen und Logistik. The campus network enables HHLA Sky to control and monitor a fleet of industrial drones from one control centre.
Staff at HHLA Sky will conduct research into how the drones operate and Telekom has therefore expanded the campus in Hamburg to allow them to do the research work. The drones climb to heights of up to 100 meters. They can be used to monitor special infrastructure and in intra-logistics activities by using special sensors. The drones currently transmit all data packets via LTE.
