5G connections to top 1 bln by 2025 – GSMA

Commercial 5G networks will begin to be widely deployed at the start of the next decade, with the number of 5G connections rising fast to reach 1.1 billion by 2025, according to a new report published at Mobile World Congress by the GSMA. The survey of 750 operator CEOs and other industry stakeholders predicts that a third of the world's population, or around one in eight mobile connections worldwide, will be covered by a 5G network in 2025, making possible a huge array of new applications, from sensor-driven smart parking to holographic conference calls.
