5G network test starts in Groningen farm fields

Friday 27 January 2017 | 11:04 CET | News
A 5G network test has started in the north of the Netherlands in Vierhuizen, according to local broadcaster RTV Noord. The trial was first announced last June, under the name 5Groningen. The network collects information on ground quality in farm fields from sensors. The aim of the test is to see whether the 5G network offers the speed and low latency needed to collect data from every square meter of the field, on issues such as fertility, humidity and the state of potatoes growing. The data will help the farmers develop the best mix of fertilizer and optimize their harvest.
