5G will help EU reinvent telecoms landscape - Oettinger

The implementation of 5G technology represents a great opportunity for Europe to reinvent its telecommunications landscape, according to the EU's digital economy commissioner Gunther Oettinger. In a speech presented at MWC in Barcelona, Oettinger set out the EU's vision for 5G telecommunications development, emphasising that the technology has the potential to spearhead the continent's digital industrial transformation and to support the Digital Single Market. He said that 5G required committed partnerships not only with the traditional telecoms players but more generally with the vertical
