A1 boosts UMTS network with HSPA+ Dual Cell technology

A1 Telekom Austria is deploying HSPA+ Dual Cell technology from Ericsson to boost the speed of its UMTS network. Deployment of this technology is enabling mobile broadband data speeds of up to 42 Mbps at various locations across Austria. An important factor in boosting the UMTS network speed is connecting the mobile base stations to the company's high-performance fibre-optic network. To date, over 1,000 base stations are connected to the fibre-optic network and this will be increased to over 4,000 by end-2013.
