Dutch bank ABN Amro is ending its Tikkie mobile payment service in Germany, around a year after its launch, director Freek de Steenwinkel told RTL. The year-long pilot found that German consumers still preferred to use cash for small payments, rather than the mobile app. As a result, the bank decided to withdraw the service.
There are no further plans to expand Tikkie abroad. In the Netherlands, the app has proven a success, registering more than 200,000 transactions per day.
