ACM starts consultation on multiplay market

The Dutch regulator ACM has started a market consultation on the competitive impact of the growing number of telecom customers taking multi-play subscriptions. Concerns include the difficulties switching provider after taking a fixed-mobile bundle, a possible weakening of the position of smaller providers, and competitive risks from offering free films, series or sports to attract customers to certain plans. Following its own preliminary analysis of the market opportunities and risks, the ACM is calling for market comments. The deadline to respond is 11 April.

According to the latest figures from Telecompaper, 6.44 million Dutch households had a multiplay package at the end of September 2016. Almost 14 percent had a quad-play, including both fixed and mobile services, up from 10 percent a year earlier.
