ACM wants to handle UPC-Ziggo merger at home

The Dutch Consumer & Market Authority (ACM ) believes the merger between cable operators UPC and Ziggo should be handled in the Netherlands and has sent the European Commission a formal request to receive the merger application. The application was sent to the EC because UPC parent Liberty Global and Ziggo are high revenue producing companies. Nevertheless, ACM noted that the EC is allowed to send such applications to a member state where the potential merger is taking place and where it will have the most effect on the national market, in this case the Netherlands.
