Activist fund Elliott eyeing Telefonica stake - report

US activist fund Elliott Management has been exploring the possibility of following up its recent intervention in Telecom Italia (TIM) with a move to build up a stake in Spain's former incumbent Telefonica, according to unnamed sources cited by business daily Expansion and news website El Confidencial. The New York-based fund reportedly set its sights on Telefonica earlier this summer when the company's share price fell below EUR 7 last month, having lost 70 percent of its value in the past 11 years and 24 percent since Jose María Alvarez-Pallete took over as CEO in April 2016.
