African smartphone market shrinks 2% over Q3 amid component shortages, feature phone shipments rise 14%

Africa's smartphone market saw shipments decline 2.3 percent quarter on quarter (QoQ) during Q3, according to International Data Corporation (IDC). The region displayed signs of recovery in H1 2021 but the IDC report shows that component shortages began to hit African markets in Q3, causing a decrease in smartphone shipments. By contrast, Africa's feature phone market remains buoyant, growing 14.2 percent QoQ because of their affordability.
