AIS launches 4.5G network in Thailand with Huawei

Thai operator Advanced Info Service (AIS) has launched its commercial 4.5G network. AIS customers can now access connection speeds up to 550 Mbps, AIS said. The 4.5G network was developed under the Joint Development Center, the special R&D program of AIS and Huawei.

AIS and Huawei have incorporated multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO), carrier aggregation on the 1,800 and 2,100MHz bands and LTE-Unlicensed (or License Assisted Access - LAA) in the network to provide the live 4.5G service.

AIS launches LAA update for smartphones from Samsung, Sony

Today, AIS has introduced its smartphone that supports LAA on the 4.5G network. The LAA-enabled smartphones include the Samsung Galaxy S9, Samsung Galaxy S9+, and Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium. Data on these LAA smartphones is two times faster and downloads 30 percent faster than on the 4G network, AIS said. Serviceable areas for the 4.5G network includes Bangkok, key cities, and areas with high data usage such as Siam Center and The Mall Korat.

Ericsson showcases 5G in Thailand

Ericsson performed the first live 5G demonstration in Thailand using its 5G test bed and 5G ready core as part of a three-day technology showcase marking Ericsson Thailand's 111 years in the country. The 5G live demonstration achieved a peak throughput of 5.7Gbps and latency as low as 3ms and presented some of the capabilities offered by the new technology. Ericsson said it's the first company to showcase 5G technology in the country.

Mobitel tests 4.5G LTE-A Pro tech with Huawei, ZTE

Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel has announced that it has successfully trialed 4.5G LTE-Advanced Pro technology, achieving speeds of over 1 Gbps. Mobitel said its 4.5G LTE-Advanced Pro Technology is capable of using a combination of 4x4 MIMO (Multiple-Input Multiple-Output); Higher Order Modulation 256 QAM (Quadrature Amplitude Modulation); and up to 5CC (five-component carrier) to provide Gigabit speeds for customers. AIS expands Wi-Fi at Starbucks stores in Thailand

Thai mobile operator AIS announced a new partnership with Starbucks. Together they are making AIS SUPER WiFi available at all Starbucks stores nationwide, except at Suvarnabhumi Airport. AIS customers who use the Wi-Fi service will be automatically connected when they visit Starbucks, with no additional application or registration needed.
