Alcatel CEO sees consolidation as key to investment

Thursday 29 May 2014 | 08:48 CET | News
Alcatel-Lucent CEO Michel Combes has called for a reform in competition policy and a consolidation of the European telecom sector to free up investment, Le Monde reports. He told BFM-Business that European operators' investment in telecom networks have decreased by 3-4 percent a year, while they have grown by 5-10 percent in the US. As a consequence, "5 percent of the world's 4G customers are in Europe, where mobile telephony was invented." The Franco-American company, which has refocused its business on IP, the cloud and broadband makes half of its turnover in the US.
