Alcatel-Lucent makes no commitment on French job cuts

Alcatel-Lucent chairman Philippe Camus did not make any commitment about French jobs at a meeting he had on 6 September with the country's industry minister, Arnaud Montebourg, Reuters reports. Asked by journalists whether the telecom equipment maker had made any pledge to safeguard jobs in the country, the minister replied, "not for so far". He added that discussions were underway because Alcatel was going through a difficult period and that the government wants to work with unions after the meeting he held with Camus.
