Alcatel-Lucent to test LAA, Wi-Fi boost

Alcatel-Lucent is working with T-Mobile US to develop LTE in the unclicensed 5 GHz band normally used for Wi-Fi. Nokia Networks and Ericsson earlier said they are also helping the US operator launch the Licensed Assisted Access (LAA) service, expected available in 2016. Alcatel-Lucent will begin trials in the second half of this year with LTE-U enabled small cells using Qualcomm Technologies' FSM99xx family of small cell SoC, with commercial products expected in H1 2016.
