Alcatel-Lucent, Vodafone trial 400 Gbps on existing network

Alcatel-Lucent and Vodafone Spain have announced the successful completion of a trial that saw data transported at speeds of up to 400 Gbps over a distance of 400 kilometers between Madrid and Zaragoza using existing optical infrastructure. Alcatel-Lucent said it used its 400G technology for the test, which demonstrated the ability of an existing optical network to carry data at up to 17.6 Tbps, doubling the current spectral efficiency in fibre.
