Amazon launches free video streaming service exclusively in India

Amazon has launched a free streaming service in India. The company has brought out MiniTV, an ad-supported video streaming service it says is free within the Amazon India app. The service is available only in India.

MiniTV features web-series, comedy shows, and content around tech news, food, beauty, fashion, with plans for expansion. Some of the titles currently available were produced by India web studios TVF and Pocket Aces or feature a range of India comedians and actors. It is available on Amazon’s Android app, with plans for an iOS launch set for the coming months.

Netflix to offer free 48-hour access to its platform in India

Netflix plans to introduce a promotion and offer free access to its platform for a weekend. The company will first launch a test of the 48-hours-for-free promo in India, Variety reports, citing COO and chief product officer Greg Peters. Netflix calls its 2-day-for-free promotion 'StreamFest', writes Protocol. The offer is scheduled for launch on 4 December in India. Depending on the results, Netflix may expand the test to other markets in the future.
