Amazon-owned Ring told to end police surveillance partnerships

US nonprofit Fight For the Future has published an open letter signed by over 30 civil rights groups to raise concerns about the privacy impact of Ring's police partnerships. The video doorbell maker, acquired by Amazon for USD 1 billion in February 2018, has reportedly entered into surveillance partnerships with more than 400 police departments across the United States and hasn't been transparent about plans to integrate facial recognition into Ring cameras, according to the letter addressed to elected officials.
